Created on 9th Feb, 2004

The following posters are being created under the guidence of my private art teacher, Mr Lau, for various international competitions during class.

Hand in Hand

Theme: Crossing Borders --- Stretching my World

Created For: Respect International

Submission deadline: 1st March, 2004

This is another postcard competition showing a harmonious environment created by people of four different colors through cooperation and communication.

Each person is holding a piece of Earth, coming out from their heart shaped windows and hoping to reach out and form a world.

All of them open their window doors widely, and when the doors of the window touched each other, a new pair of hearts are formed with their neighbours. It is a sign of communication and cooperation.

By combining the puzzle they form a connection with each other, creating a beautiful pattern of a flower, speading out with heart shaped windows. When the Earth is whole, a raindow stem from the core flows out into the universe and fill it with colours. It's a message of continuing to spread the love throughout the universe through respect and harmony.

In my younger self's own writing: "I wanted to bring out a message that different kinds of people have to open their hearts and cooperate with each other, then a harmonious and happy world can be created."

The following images are the design process for this poster.

The date marked on the right bottom corner shown the date of design.

The original sketches show a various design approach for this poster.

I was thinking of something simple that looks like a symbol and recognizable to the viewer. That is why there are some fishes that represent sharing. ( Inspiration taken from the Biblical story "five loaves and two fishes") But my instructor wants something more simple, so we came up with the window idea and connect them into a pattern. Then everything just make sense when they come together.
