Literature: Poetry & Stories
A collection of personal feelings.
All poetries here are writtern during my high school years in Canada. Those were the difficult and lonely times of my life and I became very poetic to express my sadness and loneliness.
One of my poem, "Leaves" won a poetry award from Poetry.com.
They send me a letter containing the award with a request for giving them the rights to print it in a poetry collection.
I wonder if it was just some kind of trick to sell their prints.
I allow them to use my poetry. But I never see it in print myself.
The poem "Leaves" was one of my favourite pieces.
It was originally writtern as a song that I made when I was alone in my dorm room.
The lyrics sound so rhime and beautiful that I decided to let this poem be derived a little just to fit in the rythem a bit more.
So there became 2 versions of the poem. One is for the lyrics which ends with a lighter tone, the other, the authentic tone of sorrow and bitterness.
The original poem was inspired by my relationships with my family and friends. It begun as a fairwell song to our teachers and parents sung in the graduation ceremony. It mentions that even though our teachers or elders has give us some tough love and hard times, we still thank them for all those experiences for letting us become who we are. We as children are just like the leaves depending on the trunk (family/elders). We grow on them and we die from them. We fall back on earth and return to mother nature. It is all a natural process of growing up, leaving your family, and returning to them very soon.
Once the singing version is completed the whole meaning of the poem had twisted as the music has changed it's tone.
It sounds as if a woman is singing to her ex-lover and thanked him for leaving her for good.
It could be interpreted as that way if one would like to see it that way.
After all, this is just a piece of art that expresses feelings. It could be applied to many different situations.
You can still search for my poem in Poetry.com (http://www.poetry.com).
The following poem is the original one which I submitted to the website.
Leaves
January 26, 2006
All of these memories past away,
Since you've gone there's nothing stay.
Lay on the ground wait for a voice,
Feel the rain falling down again.
I am the leaves that live on your trunk,
Live high up in the sun;
Fall, when all the seasons come and go,
You stay still as who you are.
Now you died without a sound;
I left sliently when the winter comes.
Knowing nowhere will I belong
Melting in earth felt all alone.
I make you live, I had made your hell;
Our destiny will come.
I, thank you for guiding me all my life
Now it's time for me to leave.
