Mother & Father

Completed on 2nd April, 2009

Script writtern and directed by Tonnae Kwong.

Camera: Tonnae Kwong, Mr Unknown

Actor: Nancy Wong's Parents --- Mr & Mrs Wong

This is an assignment done back in university for Steve Nanoda's fine art class.

The shot is a combination of 2 different clips. Thanks to my friend allowing me to film her parents in their house in Winnipeg.

This video portrays a common condition of a conservative family in modern society.

The mother and father were filmed in different rooms busily indulged in their own business. Even when a visitor enters, they don't even care to socialise with the visitor. Instead they would just take a look and continue their chores. The sliding door sound indicated the approach of their child and they do show awareness but no interest for socialising.

During the presentation it was planned to play out in a dark room with a decoration of a regular house on the exterior. The video was supposed to play in loops to emphasis the unbreakable silence/ no socialisation of this house. Although the final presentation was eventually not able to be realised as the school resources were not sufficient to accomplish it back then, the idea was highly appreciated by my Canadian Japanese instructor as he felt a strong conncection and sympathy for this type of typical Asian parenting style. He felt it was not good to be lacking in communication, but in my opinion, it was just another way how some parents educate their children to be reserved and emotionally independent.

Many conservative Asian families have limited to no socialising among family members as the couple are not accustomed to have small talks with their children during their up bringing. There might be a generation gap and it is becoming pretty regular as people are much more busier with their own entertainment and work. People have started to build their own gaps within the house even though they appear to be under a very peaceful roof.

A Series of Love Story: Red Umbrella + Interchange + Letting Go

Completed on 26th July, 2015

Script writtern and directed by Tonnae Kwong.

Camera: Tonnae Kwong, Allen Mui

Actor: Tonnae Kwong, Allen Mui

A story using 3 different phases of a relationship to interpret a love story.

Zecret (Incomplete Original version)

Created on 4th July,2015

Sript writtern and directed by Tonnae Kwong.

Camera: Tonnae Kwong, Fiona Fan, Nelson Lo

Actor: Tonnae Kwong, Thomas Tang

This video was never completed as I abandoned the plot due to disagreements with my crew.

So here is a rough cut of how it originally was intened to be.

The story is about a blind girl who met a mute boy on internet. They fell in love and eventually meet up at the airport. The title is named Zecret because she felt she want to hide the truth of her blindness until the very end. It's a story about love without boundaries.

Zecret (Female Version Alternative Story)

Completed on 28th June,2015

Sript writtern and directed by Tonnae Kwong.

Camera: Tonnae Kwong, Fiona Fan

Actor: Tonnae Kwong

This video was an alternative story derived from the original story. It was created before the meant to be love story. On it's own, it seems complete as a separate story without the addition of a male character.

This version is more focused on personal perspectives of the female character and her self reflection.

P.S. If view in youtube. Please press CC for English subtitles.

Moon Watcher

Completed on 6th Oct,2006

Created and drawn in Flash.

This is a multimedia assignment I did in high school.

Using the Chinese poem written by Dung Po Su (蘇東坡 水調歌頭) ,

and combined with the song sung by Fai Wong (王菲 但願人長久) .

I made up an animation about a girl who got hit in the head while watching the moon.

This warns people to be ware of their surroundings, especially in the dark.

The above youtube version was recreated using imovie to convert the swf file into a recorded mov file before combining the sound track in imovie.

The quality was not as beautiful as the original one.

If interested to view the original version. Please click on the image on the left to download the swf file and place the file on Google Chrome. A high quality version will play automatically.

War of Soul 心戰

Created between August 11-22, 2003.

*Created on 21st Feb, 2000 (*Somehow file last modified shown as this date.)

A short film created during a video-making day camp in Chinese University of Hong Kong, organised by Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It was some fun experience and our first attempt to learn how to seriously work on script, acting, video editing and after effects as a team. We received a certificate of recognition for our participation.

The story is about a teenager getting lost in his own fictional world and try to kill his enemy who murdered his girlfriend. We tried to make it with a serious tone but because of our poor acting the outcome became some silly teenager violent comedy. The plot also wasn't clear enough but it was a combination of emotions and parody from Matrix and Infernal Affairs.
