River Pollution & Protection
Theme: Sustainability, Water pollution and protection
Created For: Unrecorded
Submission deadline: unknown (Between 2004 - 2005)
I cannot remember if this drawing was rejected by Mr. Lau for the "Wanted! Sea & Oceans --- Dead or Alive?" competition or if it was for another competition that I didn't record.
This painting can be viewed from all directions and I think this orientation fits best for this screen.
The process of creating the characters and the details in the background was not an easy task. It takes a lot of research and thinking into how to position and insert them. The overall design originated from another pencil drawing I did about a kissing couple. You can view the original design process in the following images.

The Kiss
This image was a design I made initially after my instructor asked me to submit a design for a poster competition. I thought of the yin-yang symbol and wanted to turn it into a couple kissing each other. The lady represents the river goddess while the man represents her admirer on Earth.
On the corner of the image you can see a mini drawing titled "My Beloved River Goddess".

The poster development
In the following images you can see the developing process from this romantic kiss to a formal poster for the environmental competition.

I tried to add more sea creatures into the faces but it seems my instructor Mr. Lau wasn't satisfied with this visual composition. He suggested me to make the river more obvious and bring out the main character of the theme. The marking on the right bottom corner suggests the huge transition, you can view it from top to bottom.

This is how it looks like after colouring it. I prefer to orient it this direction so I can see the positive side smiling.
