Trickster

Painted in Winnipeg9th April, 2009

Conte on cut out paper.

In western fairy tales, a Trickster is a fictional character that described as a magical creature; they could appear from nowhere and disappear as they like; they could be mischievous and playful. In Chinese traditional believes, they are usually spiritual foxes that takes a human form; they were seen as charming mistresses that brings bad omen to the men they were seducing.

This Trickster has a long pony tail that curves like a fox tail which indicate her real identity. The colour scheme was inspired by Takashi Murakami's works. She is running out from the scroll, transforming into a real 3D character. This can be seen from her upper torso which is more curvy compared to her legs. She's playing a flute with the confetti floating around her like she's working her "magical charms" on the viewer.

The final presentation was presented hanging on the door. A cup of confetti would drop on the person entering through the door. The person has indirectly became part of the art, and thus an imaginary trickster became a real one.  Note the pony tail has a darker version when it was on the color, because my teacher's preference was brunette, I changed the colorful fox tail into a boring dark brown later just to fit in her taste.
